| Our
History |
|
Back
in the summer of 1989, two to three women decided
to meet once every two months at the Chinese
Evangelical Seminary, with the support of two
seminary students, Grace Shao and Phoebe Yu.
During the Mid-Autumn Festival of that same
year, the gathering became a group of eight,
and on Christmas, it became 12.
The search for a permanent place to hold these
gatherings ended in 1990 when the Taipei Ling
Leung Church offered a free room on the 3rd
floor of its premises. There, this small
band of Overseas Chinese met regularly and fellowshipped
every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month.
In time, the group moved to a bigger room on
the 9th floor and thus was borne the Philippine
Overseas Chinese Fellowship (POCF, or Fil-Chi,
for short). In 1992, the leaders began
praying for guidance and embarked on a five-year
plan involving the growth towards spiritual
maturity of every member and eventually extending
Christ’s love and salvation by reaching
out and touching the lives of the Filipino-Chinese
in Taipei. Until the end of 1993, the
ministry remained a part the Taipei Ling Leung
Church, with it participating in the weekly
district meetings.
In 1994, led by Reverend Rolando Gan, Fil-Chi
moved to Home of Christ Church and took on a
new name – what we now know as our Canaan Ministries.
Its first service was held in March of that
same year.
